Carl and Herman Upmann, German bankers, travelled to Cuba in 1844 with the express purpose of creating a superior cigar to give as a special gift to their most important clients. H. Upmann has gone to great lengths to recreate their original blend, "The Banker," using a dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder from the Jalapa region, and aged Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers.
