Another cigar with Italian Habano seed long filler tobacco may be difficult to find. The Italia is no exception to CAO's penchant for thinking outside the box.
CAO combined Italian filler with long filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and Peru, then finished the cigar with a Habano seed Honduran-grown wrapper and binder. Italy, widely regarded as the source of some of the world's finest wines, olive oils, and truffles, has been largely overlooked as a source of premium cigar tobacco.
Historically, there have been two types of tobacco seeds that thrive in Italy, said Tim Ozgener, CAO Vice President. The Geudertheimer seed is primarily grown and used for machine-made cigars. The seed grown for CAO Italia, on the other hand, is an Italian Habano seed that was brought to Italy from Cuba over forty years ago. This seed is grown in the Benevento region of southern Italy, halfway between Rome and Naples. We've done a lot of testing with Italian tobacco, and we believe it adds a very distinct earthy-sweetness to the blend, rounding out the robust, full-bodied flavor profile that is CAO Italia.
